FAQ: Campus Operations in the event of a strike
- Campus will remain open and access to the hospital will also remain open.
- Most operations should be available as usual but there could be some delays in services.
- Plan for extra time to access campus no matter how you’re getting to campus.
- If you are driving to campus or taking public transit, expect delays due to picket lines at the Sterling Street and Cootes Drive entrances. Plan for extra time to access campus parking lots, as well as delays when accessing drop off areas.
- Public transit services will continue to come to campus, however there may be modifications to transit stops and some delays.
Will public transit be impacted by the strike?
Public transit services will continue to come to campus, however there may be modifications to transit stops and some delays.
Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus passengers will be dropped off and picked up at designated areas near the university. The HSR website outlines where the temporary stops will be located. Bus Stops on campus will be temporarily closed during the strike and will be signed accordingly. Off campus bus stops will have signage advising of rerouting as well.
GO Transit buses will not be accessing campus during the strike. Go buses will drop passengers off at designated stops just outside of campus. Please board GO Transit buses at the stop located at the corner of Main Street West and Emerson Street. Visit GO Transit’s webpage for real-time bus information.
The Coach Canada stop remains the same.
DARTS vehicles will continue to access campus. Expect delays when accessing campus via DARTS.

Is parking impacted by the strike?
If there is a strike, you should expect picket lines at the main entrances to campus at Sterling Street and Cootes Drive. Plan for extra time to access campus in a vehicle. Please be patient and respectful of anyone on the picket line, other drivers and pedestrians. Parking lots will operate as normal.
Will Uber, taxis, or takeout food delivery drivers be able to come on campus?
Uber, taxi and takeout food delivery drivers attending campus would have to cross the picket line. This could cause delays.
How will mail and parcel delivery on campus be impacted by the strike?
Outgoing courier boxes on campus will be closed. Please do not use outgoing courier boxes on campus. Please take outgoing courier parcels to an external location for shipping.
Incoming mail and courier deliveries to campus will continue. Expect mail and parcel deliveries to be delayed.
Inter-office mail will continue to be delivered.
Are Security Services impacted by the strike?
McMaster University Security Services will be monitoring picket activity in an effort to maintain public safety. Hamilton Police Services will support Security Services as required.

How will garbage, recycling and compost services be impacted by the strike?
Garbage and recycling services will operate as usual.
Will scheduled events booked by McMaster’s Conference and Event Services still take place on campus during the strike?
